What subjects and grade levels do you teach? Literacy, Social Studies, and Science
What is your educational or professional background? I have a degree in Early Childhood Education and have taught in a variety of school settings from public school to several different learning style private schools.
What inspired you to become an educator? I always wanted to be a teacher! I love learning and exploring with others!
How long have you been part of the Oak House community? This is my 3rd year at Oak House.
Why Oak House? When I taught in public school, I was really disheartened by the student-to-teacher ratio and all the red tape that kept me from doing my best for children. I love that our community treats children with the respect that all humans deserve. Plus Genius Hour and Friday club days are SO inspiring and fun!!
What do you enjoy most about teaching at Oak House? The students! Every day is full of surprises and beautiful connections. It is such an honor to get to know each child here.
What makes the Oak House community special to you? I love the community that we have here. Everyone is so kind and thoughtful. And creative!
What is something you want every student to feel when they enter your classroom? Loved and seen.
What is one lesson, unit, or classroom project you especially enjoy teaching? Ya'll, Fat Bear Week is coming up! Katmai National Park has the biggest brown bears, and they're preparing for hibernation. I love celebrating the natural world and learning with students along the way.
What is something your students have taught you? To be flexible. Breaks are needed sometimes and it is okay to pivot in another direction if we feel inspired to do so.
What do you hope students remember about your class after the school year ends? We can do hard things!
What do you enjoy doing outside of school? I love hiking, crafting and sewing, reading, and eating delicious foods.
What book, movie, television show, podcast, game, or artist are you currently enjoying? I am loving the podcast Fixable and am so inspired by the positivity they put out into the world.
